Kirtan at your home

ISKCON Perth can organize a devotee association program to be held at your home. It is the best time to invite friends, relatives and colleagues for an evening of kirtan or congregational chanting of the Holy Name. The event can also have a discussion on Bhagavad Gita followed by sanctified vegetarian food. Through reading and understanding transcendental spiritual books in an interactive and engaging environment, participating in kirtan accompanied with musical instruments and enjoying delicious sattvic prasadam together, the whole evening is spiritually enlightening for everyone. Participating in kirtan and similar events, motivates participants to cultivate spiritual growth and new devotional habits and increases their natural love for Krishna, which manifests itself in happiness and peacefulness.

Samskaras

The Vedic literatures describe that there are many opportunities during one’s life from before birth to after death when one may perform a ceremony for purification to evoke auspiciousness and ensure advancement in spiritual life.

Vedic Samskaras are purificatory ceremonies. They are performed by highly qualified priests who are trained in performing Vedic rites. They have deep understanding of Vedic literature and Vaisnava philosophy, hence are able to explain every rite and ritual with proper context.

Vedic literatures recommend specific samskaras (purifying ceremony) for different stages in life and yajnas to invoke auspiciousness and progress in spiritual life. Following are some of the occasions when one can organize Vedic samskara-

  • Weddings (Vivaha)
  • Conception and rites preceding childbirth (Garbhadhana, Pumsavana, Sasyanti-homa, Jata-karma)
  • Baby shower (Simantonnayanam)
  • Birthday (Janma)
  • Name giving (Nama-karana)
  • Child’s first outing (Niskarmana)
  • First Grains (Anna-prasana)
  • Hair cutting (Cuda Karanam/Mundana)
  • Ceremony for child’s health (Paustika-karma)
  • Piercing the ears (Karna-vedha)
